2003 Camry XLE - Rust on Rear Door Handles

Don't know if anyone is this forum has experienced this and knows how to fix it, but I am getting rust bleeding out from the rear driver's door handle on my 2003 Camry XLE. The rear passenger door is actually just starting to do the same. A friend of mine said about a year ago his was doing the same, but I never found out what he ended up doing, if anything, to correct that.

Anyone know what's going on with that, and what is the best way to stop the rust bleeding at the door handle?

Sometimes it's helpful to wait more than a day for a response

The last time I heard about this problem, the door handle was taken off and everything was cleaned inside.

I thought it's helpful to start several new threads. j/k

homedepot have some paint that you can use to prevent rust. Of course you have to remove the handle and do the painting. I'm thinking of doing this too, but at the vent.

I suppose a stupid question, but what in the door handle would cause the rust stain? I've never seen this on other cars. That's because there isn't supposed to be anything on the outside of the handle that can rust, and the handle itself is sealed around the door opening. Anything that can rust is on the inside of the door. So where does the rust stain come from to get on the outside of the door?

You are not alone. There are a lot of people with this problem. Toyota dropped the ball on this one like they did with the gas pedal.

How did you fix it?

I seriously think Toyota MUST fix this rust problem even if the warranty is over. They literally screwed up the non-galvanized nut/bolts. I am hearing a lot of complain on this. There has to be a class action lawsuit.

Eastwood makes a product that it an aerosol anti-rust. Comes in black and amber. The wax like product sprays on very thin and seals very small opening. I sprayed the CV joints and axles on my 04 right after I purchased it and those units show no rust. Same with some of the other suspension members that rust if not protected. You might locate the source of the rust and use this spray to stop the rusting.Regards
