I have a same issue. I took it in and they tried to deny my claim. I left the car at their shop, and the next day they called me and said there is nothing wrong. I got pissed off and went there. I requested the master mechanic and explained to him step by step what the problem was. Then I had him drive it and he admitted it's there, and later apologized. All they did however was put a ton of grease on it and called it "a fix". It's been few months since then and the problem is coming back. I am taking it in again today for an oxygen sensor issue and I'll have them "fix" the shaft again.

i have the same problem hopefully we can find out whats wrong i brought mine in to the shop and he said something about running the curb to much (my mom ran it alot) kinda knock i guess something related to the tire or rotor and he hammer it a bit back in place but not a fix tho cuz he did it a little not all the way, but the problem was still there. im hopefully taking the car to get the quote for my body repair so ima ask to diagnose the clicking issues. im at 30,000 miles right now in a Camry 2008 LE

I think it might be related to the tires fellas, I had the same problem with my car & I went to go get my tires rotated & come to find out i ended up needing a Front Passenger tire because my outside treads were worn down, but let me find out what happens with each situation.

if clicks coming from inside of steering wheel it's clock spring.
I doubt it covered under powertrain warranty.
most mechanics would say it's pretty normal...
mine does it to sometimes...

Gen5

does it sound like its in the car? (more prominent) or does it sound like its outside (quiet)? it could be maybe the CV joint(s) or the steering shaft.

has anyone taken this problem to the dealer? dont get the work done there and then, just see what they think it is and get a price from them in case you come back to have them do it.

my 2003 had a "squeaking" problem under the same circumstances. i took it to the dealer and they said they'd have to take apart the steering column to diagnose it and/or repair it. they had me take it into the garage area (which is awesome btw ) and the guy sprayed something up behind the steering wheel and had me to a few lock-to-lock turns but that didnt help. it ended up being the rubber boot where the steering shaft meets the firewall had dried out.
sorry for the long post, im just trying to help.

My issue is definitely a steering column. They greased it again yesterday and it was covered by the warranty. I know it's a temporary fix but they simply refuse to replace the shaft. On the invoice it said GREASE KIT - time it took to perform the "fix" 0.1 hours. Hope it helps.
