Assuming it was running properly before the battery came out, the computer lost its memory when you disconnected the battery. Start it up, use both feet to idel it and drive around for awhile. All should be good in half an hour.

All's well that ends well, good call gdanaher! I have a 2002 as well, a V6, and i have disconnected the battery plenty of times and never once had this problem. I wonder why this would happen on one 2002 and not another.

Yup. My 05 LE did that when I disconnected the battery. I just sat in the driveway and kept the rpm above 1k for a couple minutes using the throttle. I guess the car just has to relearn where idle is

The computer has a default setting and must compensate for small variations in the sensors and other inputs. If things are quite a bit out of tolerance at some point then it isn't going to work well until the parameters are set back to accomodate those variances.
