Fried ECU?

Hey guys,

I'll do my best to make a long story short.

Mom has a 2003 Toyota Camry XLE (3.0 V6). The battery died from leaving an interior light on over the weekend.

Dad came home, tried to boost but hooked up the cables backwards to his truck. Left cables on till they started smoking and melted (probably like 5 minutes). Camry didn't start, I notice 120A alt fuse was blown, so I replaced that. Engine starts but throttle doesn't work, and changing gears in really rough.

So I assume the ECU is fried because there's no EFI? I checked all the EFI fuses/relays and they're fine. And since the tranny is fugly too it's probably the ECU (or PCM as my Haynes manual calls it).

Can anyone confirm my hunch before I rip it out?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Regards,

Alex

re

Do you have any friends with a 2002-2006 v6 Camry? If so, you can easily pull out the ECU and plug it into the other Camry - swaping computers is no risk.

Also, is the check engine light on? See if you can pull the codes - a code reader is $60 and a worthwhile investment. This can help pinpoint the exact problem, as you might have an overlooked blown fuse.

Cool thanks guys. I have a code reader but lent it to a buddy, so after work I'm gonna get it and scan the codes. I found a ECU at a local parter for $175 so that's not bad at all if that's what's wrong. Thanks for your help, I'll see what happens and keep you posted.
