Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Can my 05 Camry carry a 400lb passenger for 2k miles?
What, if any, damage would occur to my 05 Camry if 2 ppl traveled from Florida to Ohio, through the Smokies.....with the driver weighing 155 and passenger 400+ lbs? Right now, I'm having the rear wheel bearings replaced (they needed it). Just not confident about going through the mts......slamming on brakes (possibly).... This is a 2 thousand mile round trip.
Thanks in advance for serious input.
You could try using the lower gears when going downhill to let the engine slow the car alongside manual braking vs just purely using the brakes which will probably wear out a good portion of the brake pads. Might also want to check brake pads to see the condition there in.

Thx for the replies so far. So you don't think it will bottom out if I hit bumps, or damage the struts......or make my car lean permanently to one side??

you may bottom out, but i doubt the struts will be damaged nor will it permanently lean to one side.
think of it this way, 400+ lbs is basically two adult people, and most camry owners carry 3 - 5 people in their cars with no problem.
like workerant said, have the passenger sit in the rear seats to distribute the weight.

LOL this question is actually kind of funny. How is a single 400lb passenger different from two adult passengers? Any car will haul 4 to 5 people in total just fine by design.

You're well within the car's payload weight limits. No worries.
