5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have an 04 2az-fe. I bought a 5speed tranny from an 06 scion tc. I got the manual computer from it also the shift linkage, shift cage, reservoir, and new lines, all I'm missing is the harness, mounts, clutch/flywheel. Am I missing anything else?
Do you think the mounts would be the same for the tc and camry? Since it's a tc tranny should I buy it for a tc or for a camry?
I'm not sure if the pedals are the same or not, but I know the tC transmission has shorter gearing than the camry trans-- it should only make it more peppy given its measly power. I mean it seems like my gears take 10 minutes to run to redline lmao..
Sounds like you're well on the way to getting it done tho, nice!!
Obviously not a huge difference because he's not increasing power, but since the gears are shorter, it will "feel" quicker when in reality it might be slower because he's gotta shift more. It's just like subarus-- the 07+ sti 6-speed is longer than the 04-06 with very marginal, if any, gains in performance. The JDM 6-speed is even shorter than the 04-06 usdm trans, and thats just because it's more fun in Auto-X/Touge style courses...
I know the tC can only do about 52mph in 2nd whereas the camry is 62mph, and 3rd is the same way, its like 78mph in the tC and around 90mph in the camry...
Right. And you'll also get fewer mpg Because in 5th gear on the highway it's going to be revving higher-much like my husband's 2000 Maxima, which isn't geared for fuel economy.

^^exactly right... Its hilarious, if you've ever been in an EVO 8 on the highway at 75, its running almost 4k rpm!! so imagine, INSTANT BOOST, its a blast from the freeway..
Mine sits at 3k rpm at 80mph... I'd imagine with the tC trans it should be around 3200-3300 roughly...
