Oil capacities/Oil consumption

Something I don't understand is why my ‘05 Camry with the 4 cyl 2AZ-FE engine takes 4.0 quarts of oil with the filter change and my wife's ‘07 Solara, 2AZ-FE takes 4.5 quarts? Another mystery is why her 07 with 65K on it will use 1 1/2 to 2 quarts between changes and my car with 145K doesn't appear use a drop. Both cars were bought new and are treated pretty much the same.

Two of those mysteries I thought I would report about!

BTW. I think I may change brands from the Mobil 5000 the dealer has always used and go up from 5-20 to either 5-30 or 10-30 on the oil to see if it will reduce oil consumption.

it means your wife need a new V6. and use 5w30 and stick with it.

does her solara burn oil? 2 quarts is a lot. That's almost half of the oil put in.

I don't know where the oil goes but I'm assuming it is burning it but there are no other signs I can see other than the consumption. No smoking I've noticed or her hotfooting it to much. 2 quarts may be off a little but it I know it is 1 1/2 plus in 5000 miles, about 3 months of driving for her. I'm tickled with the 4 cyl motor and based on our driving don't see why I really need a 6 cyl.

I've seen many vehicle on the road put out a puff of smoke when they step on the gas while driving. Maybe yours does the same.
