5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a two-month old 2011 Camry automatic transmission basic model. Just noticed a problem exactly the same as described in the following three links for older models, i.e., a hot spot on the console surface area between tranmission shifter and the little storage cube before the armrest. It's a very small, pretty much in the lower left corner, just below the P-R-N-4-D...lights.
I have a 2010 Toyota Camry and I noticed a 2" in diameter "hot spot" about 1" down from the transmission shifter (right before the cup holder). Has anyone figured out why this is happening? It gets hot after about 15 minutes of driving.
The reason why there is a hotspot is because of the small halogen bulb that lights up the shifter lights (P,R,N,ect.). I replaced mine with a white led so i dont have that problem.

Were u driving with the lights on? I think it's that shifter light bulb heating up because it sits just below the shifter.
I have 2011 Camry Hybrid and it is getting hot at the same place just behind the shifter. It is getting hot in day time as well when lights are not on. I did check other forums and found that in BMW E36 also get similar problem (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/101-p...tentially.html), reason here is rubber boot on shifter may have got torn out that allows enter engine hit. But this BMW E36 message was for 1997 year make car that was reported in 2008. Where my car is barely a year old car with 13k miles on it. So I doubt rubber boot may have torn out in my car. Not sure about halogen lamp, as it is getting hot in day time as well when lights are not on.
So, please post the solution if anyone have got it.
Thanks much.
