engine noise

A few days ago i noticed a squeaking noise coming from my 2005 v-6 engine. Upon raising the hood and listning closer it seemed to come from the alt. belt area and was more of a bad bearing sound. Thinking it may be a bad belt or alternator, i took the belt off. The sound was still there and seemed to come from the top of the timing belt cover or front of the valve cover near the timing belt cover. it is not loud, you cannot hear it in the car. The car has 67000 mi on it. The car has been driven about 40 mi. since finding this problem and has not got any worse. Has anyone else out there had this problem?

It would be best to at least get it looked at since it's pretty ugly when/if that belt breaks. It could be a seized tensioner/idler pulley or one with a bad bearing inside the timing cover.
