Good Brakes and Good Rotors + Source

Hey everyone, new member here, great to be here.

Bought an '05 Camry for my father and it's in need of brakes and rotors.

Can anyone suggest good brand brakes and rotors and a great source(s) for ordering them online (good prices)? I'd appreciate it tons.

Tirerack.Akebono pads[OEM for Toyota brake pads]. Centric discs. There is a lot of info on this subject on this site. Be sure that you clean and lube the sliding pins with a grease made for this service[Permatex,3M,CRC] Also use the same lube between the pad and the shim pack. Raybestos makes hardware kits that have the rubber dust boots and brake pad support plates. The toyota parts east.com site has illustrations of all the brake componets.Other members will have other places to get the parts you need. The OEM components aren't bad. Be sure to properly support the car with a good jack stand and don't rely on the jack.CRC makes a good brake cleaner. You will need a large C clamp to push the caliper piston in so that it will clear the new pads.Enjoy yourself. Regards

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on doing it myself, I'll have pops bring it to a mechanic and charge him for labor fees.

Any reliable mechanics in the NYC (Queens/Flushing) area anyone can recommend? Ihave a strong feeling the mechanic my pop's been going to for the past 15 yrs has been ripping him off.

I have Akebono brakes on my 7 series Bimmer and they are amazing for non-existant brake dust. Albeit, not as strong as OEM brakes, but having 22"chrome wheels without any brake dust is heaven

I use some sort of Raybestos Advanced rotors and ceramic pads on my Camry. It's a great improvement in pedal feel and wet braking performance. Reduced fade, too.

I just did my 05 Camry with EBC Slotted rotors and Red Stuff pads. The car has never braked this good. OEM brakes were a joke compared to these ones. I'm usually speeding now because of good brakes.

One thing to note if you go the slotted rotor route, there's a little wind noise to them when driving. Good luck
