Changed water pump and car wont start???

So last night my buddy and I changed the Water pump on my Girlfriends 2007 Camry se. We disconnected the battery well we did the work and when we went to start it after it wouldn't start.

All the lights come on and its in park but it wont turn over. Its like it immobilized or something. Any ideas?

Thanx
Bugz

I think others said the immobilizer only prevent your engine to continue to run, but it still turn. Plugged everything in?

how many miles and did the water pump leak?

It has 62,000 kms and the pump was leaking. We tried unplugging everything and plugging it back in again....still nothing. We removed the alternator to get at the pump.

Did you do anything with the crankshaft position wire? Did you disconnect this from the sensor and not have put it back tight? Just a thought.

We unplugged and moved the wire so not to damage it, But we have tried unplugging and re-plugging it back in and still nothing. One more weird thing is that when we turn the keys on in the car the instrument lights come on but the stereo does not turn on......im totally lost on this one!!

Have you checked all of your fuses? Don't forget the ones under the dash...

Notsure on newer ones but older ones had ground wire to fender well and i have had weird things happen if that wire is not grounded really good. check starter wire i have had them come loose at really wierd times. but fuses are really good spot to start. Oh yea i have seen this a couple times. there is not a wrench on crankshaft bolt for turning engine over to reset timing marks. yes you feel really stupid when you find the wrench.

On to the next problem...

Alright so here is where were at.........

We gave up and took the car to the mechanic we couldn't start it with the keys so we used a piece of wire to jump the starter. The car started and ran but the windows, door locks, turn signals, and stereo did not work. That's when we drove it to the mechanic.

After an hour they traced it down to the "fusible link from the alternator" they said it was fried and that it took some heavy amps to fry it....this is where my buddy let me know that when he started on the alternator he f*#@ked up and didn't disconnect the battery...... He disconnected it right after but we figure it was to late.

So we went and got a range of fusible links but for the life of me I can not track this thing down. I have taken the fuse box apart but I cant seem to find it. Anyone have any pics or diagrams?

i'm surprised you managed to start the car with that fusible link fried. I did the same thing when i was messing with the alternator... the positive lead slipped and shorted itself out on the oil dipstick... and actually welded itself to it! car wouldn't start afterwards, and even the dashboard would not light up when i tried to start it.

anyway, long story short, it was the 120 A alternator fusible link. This is not an easy fuse to replace, because it is bolted in and not a push in like the regular fuses. This fusible link is in the engine compartment fusebox, and you will have to take apart the fusebox to get at the bolt. I'll get a picture tomorrow if you still need it.

there's a good lesson here... ALWAYS disconnect the battery when working with the alternator!

EDIT: just realized you have a 2007, and my situation was with an 05. the 120 A alternator fusible link should still be in the engine compartment fusebox though.

it should be like a black bump or sealed connector within 6 to 8 inches of the altenator. maybe even closer to altenator. if it is the altenator fuseible link. they look nothing like a fuse or relay. just a weird spot in the wire or sometime a sealed black thing in the wire.

The fuse you are looking for is 120 amps. It is the long blue fuse just to the left of the lower red circle. The fuse is bolted in (it is of course 120 amps, must be a solid and secure fit or it will cause problems) in the pic on post 10 of the following link;

Found the little bugger!!

Well guys I have to give out a big thanx to all of you. Last night I tracked that fusible link down and sure enough it was fried. It took a while to get that fuse box open and even then I wasnt sure what I was looking for but once I got those two screws off the side and popped that blue fusible link out to see it blown.......instant relief and satisfaction

Tomorrow I will have to go down to the dealership and see if I can get a new one then hopefully that will be the end of all this mess!

Once again thank you guys for all your help I really appreciate it.
