Gen5 Gear Light On Instrument Cluster Issue

On a 2005 Camry LE with A/T, the gear light on the instrument cluster started acting up. On Parking, no problem. On Reverse, the "R" is lighted up and the "N" also tends to light up, it flickers every now and then, sometimes even completely lighted up. On Neutral, no problem. On Drive, no problem. When shifting down into 3 and 2 the "N" light lights up momentarily during the shift.

Has anyone had this problem before? Any idea on what the problem can be? Car is still under warranty. I took it to the dealer just to ask and they said that since its still under warranty, they would not charge if whatever is wrong is covered under warranty. If whatever is wrong is not covered under warranty, I would get charged $50 for the inspection.

well it could be a number of things.... loose wire, bad connection, damaged circuit board, damaged LED....... honestly its something i would just live with because u can try soldering in a new LED but u havta tear appart the cluster or even if u replaced the whole thing u havta go the the dealer to have it reprogramed which is not cheap

Try to check the performance of the charging system. Autozone or Kragen do it for free.

Good luck,

Sam

i ended up taking the car to the dealer bc it would stall when shifting into gear and check engine light came on
turns out it was the neutral safety switch that was faulty. it fixed the problem with the stalling and the cluster gear light
