Question TRD Exhaust Resonance Question

Getting resonance around 200-2500 RPMs as you accelerate. Exhaust is new as of Saturday and so it is quieting down a bit as carbon starts to coat the inside. Hopefully, this will continue. I love the sound as you start it up, the idle...generally everything but that particular range noted above.

After searching the forum I have found that to get rid of the noise:
- You cannot wrap the pipes with header tape;
- You cannot Dynamat the Bejesus out of the trunk area;
- You cannot spray foam crap up under car;
-You cannot use that smelly Dynamat substitute from Lowes or Home Depot;
- You cannot get rid of the noise.

So my questions are:
1) Has anybody tried Dynapad (not Dynamat) in the trunk?
2) If I were to take stainless steel hose clamps (as you use for radiator hoses) and placed a couple of them along the length of the straight back pipe and snugged them tight, would that break up the resonance wave?

Thanks.

Give it a couple of weeks. I had the same problem when I put the my system on. Either it got better or I got used to it. If you really can't live with it then I would suggest taking it to an exhaust shop and getting a small resonator welded in the mid-pipe. That will take care of the resonance and won't cause any restriction in the exhaust.

Good point DOHCammer. My wife is telling me the same thing - give it a a few weeks or a month and see if quiets down, as you said.

Any suggestions for a resonator if I need to go that route?

A resonator is nothing more than a small glass pack. I would suggest a high quality stainless unit to match the rest of your system. Personally I've had good luck with Magnaflow products.

A couple of good suggestions. Hopefully I will not need them. In only a couple hundred miles, there is a reduction in the booming factor. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm thinking if you engineered a couple of harmonic balancers that clamped on you would have this problem licked !!!! lol

hmmmmm.....harmonic balancers....chrome harmonic balancers to match the mufflers ......how would I get power to them to spin... and how fast would they need to rotate... would clockwise be preferable to counter-clockwise... and would somebody in the southern hemisphere have to have them spin the opposite direction? LOL!

Seriously, there was a forum message about Toyota using some sort of mid-pipe weights or such to interrupt the wave patterns. I don't recall where ...my eyes were glazing over about that time with all of the threads

HaHaHaHahahahaHa......that's pretty funny !

But on a serious note: I'm not sure they would have to spin......I'm thinking about all the R & R that firearm makers do on the issue of vibration & resonance......and they push alot more exhaust gas through small pipes than our systems do (abeit, in a shorter time frame)......they call the touch-points of barrels, 'Nodes'......there are even aftermarket add-on vibration control units that shooting enthusiasts use to experiment with......So, Go make yourself some Home-made Node-Points !!!
