Cold idle and between gear idle on 1MZ-FE

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the idle on a 1MZ-FE on a 02 Camry.

At cold, it idles at about 1800 rpm for a few minutes and then drops back to normal once the car is warm. Is this normal? The idle at operating temp is about 750rpm (in a manual)

Also, when driving around and changing gears, does the engine / computer have a habit of holding the RPM for 2-4 seconds as mine seems to do this.
So a bit more of an explanation, if you are driving along and then let go of the accelerator, it holds the rpm for a few seconds before dropping off.

Thanks

That is normal for the cold start the RPM's dropping to idle.

Also our cars are Drive By Wire, so what you're experiencing is just that.. takes a half second for the computer to adjust it's self.
