Metra Kit 99-8218 Issue

So I searched and searched and found a local Best Buy that had a Metra kit 99-8218 on sale for $19.99. It was unopened but they had it in their install bay for what looks like at least a few years. I got it home and when I pulled out the pocket it looked sunken in the middle. So I proceeded with installing the radio but this the end result. Do you all think that's because the plastic just sat for that period of time and now leaves the gap that is clearly visible between the head unit and the pocket? The trim pieces and pocket also slide around and don't really "SNAP" in place real well.

The one for my RX8 was like that. I don't think I've ever had a radio kit that fit perfectly.

I had one for my S-10 that did that too. Those pockets are not made that great.

They found another kit at a local Best Buy and are bringing that one in for an exchange. For $19.99 I couldn't beat the price... so we'll see if this one has a better pocket fit.

I had thought about doing some CyA glue originally but thought I better find out if another one might fit better.

Brutal...just got back from Best Buy and they had the new Metra kit for me. I bought it... took it out to my car and opened it. They must've made an adjustment on the new Metra kits as this one had some extra plastic around the pocket to stiffen it up...BUT the paint around the pocket trim was horrible. It wasn't painted all the way to the edge of the interior pocket and showed the black plastic underneath.

THEN... the main part of the upper trim had a nasty scratch on it!

Put it all back in the bag and took it back in. Now I don't know which way to turn. If I try one more time and order one on ebay I feel like I could be confronted with some of the same issues. I originally wanted to go with the MTX Req5 and keep the factory head unit...but it doesn't seem like many people have tried this route in their Gen 6 Camrys.

Maybe try the Scosche ones? It's probably the only other option. Linked to amazon but you can easily find these on ebay for 15 bucks shipped.

Yeah everyone says that Metra kits were better and matched the factory silver better on the dash trim color. I also found some on ebay that were made by "Best Kits"?? Those looked pretty watered down though.

I don't know last night I buttoned the whole dash back up with the factory radio back in place.

I think I may look into these Erisin, Eonon, Valor replacement radios that seem to run amuck out on Ebay. Any opinions on the Valor ones out on ebay? They seem to be the cheapest... I've found a few right at $160.
