Gen 6 and 6.5 Camry's Have You Had Sunroof Problems
alright on wednesday i took my car in for a weird creaking and popping sound on my rooftop area in my 2011 camry SE (it only creaked or popped going into a driveway or up and down speed bumps). Dealer confirmed it was a factory defect and said the headliner had to be pulled off along with the sunroof. Their excuse was when the car is put together at the factory supposebly everything is installed when the car is in the air. and if the sunroof is installed at a little wrong angle once the car is lowered to the ground it will put stress on the sunroof rails causing it to make creaking and popping noises when car is in motion. MY QUESTION TO YOU TOYOTANATION MEMBERS IS HAVE YOU EVER HAD OR HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE TOYOTA TOLD ME THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON AND I DONT BELIEVE THEM. I think they are hiding something because this noise wasnt coming from the sunroof it was coming from the back side of the passenger area in the pillar area not the sunroof. so far so good i got the car back but idk if they just covered something that is a major problem and didnt say anything about it
It has something to do with the roof welding, not the sunroof cause it knocks even with the sunroof open. Mine does that too but I just learned to live with it, not worth taking apart your headliner and ruin everything else. Plus it only knocks when the body flexes and not all the time anyway.
^ Same here. The popping noise on the sunroof models are common and nothing to worry about. I think of the noise as a way of my car telling me I'm on uneven terrain and I've gotten used to it and I've only had it for just over a month.

I hear my sunroof creaking every once in a while when i dont have the stereo on, but i usually never notice it since i always have loud music playing.

Never heard mine pop yet. Even though I've had my SE for almost a year now, she only has 5700 miles.
Your car is going to feel lonely like mine does when I live it on the garage for weeks and weeks

Yup, had this exact thing happen to my 2011 TCH, took it in, they took out the headliner and tightened some things(?) and all better. Now today, I am not sure what the heck happened but I am driving home on the highway and all of a sudden I hear a wind whistlng through the cabin of the car. I think it is a vent broken or something, I open the sunroof cover and look up to see that my sunroof is completely smashed! There is a hole in the middle and the whole thing is splintered and broken, I can hear glass chips flying off and bouncing off my car onto the highway. I quickly drive to the closest auto glass place and when I got out to look at it the glass appears to be buldging up as if it was broken from the inside! Very bizarre and it makes me wonder if this could be a further defect, maybe the sunroof was under some pressure and just finally cracked? Anyone have this happen to them?
its the sunroof rails that cause the cracking noises. it sounded like the noise was coming from the back and when i turn the car or hit bumps, it gets really loud and annoying. so i took it to the dealer and they had to take the roof liner off and replace to sunroof rails bolts. now it all good again...
Well these cars are made of tin can so expect popping.
I can dent the roof by just looking at it.
It is so sad but you are so right.. when I wash my car I have to be so careful on the roof a little to much pressure and I have actually pushed it in and it popped back out.. Kinda sad honestly...

My '07 XLE moonroof makes popping noises, my '06 XLE does not. The '07 also sticks, I see by the paperwork that the past owner had it worked on.
IMO, the '06 moonroof works better, thisw '07 kinda feels like you have to play with it to be sure that its closed, the '06 indexes better.
Just yesterday I coated my moonroof gaskets with dialectric grease to eliminate the sticking. Just a thin coat and rub it in, then wipe it with a rag. I usually do my door gaskets too, keeps your doors from freezing shut on those freezing days that was preceeded by a thaw or wet snow.
