Two winters ago I was driving in the snow and skidded sideways into a granite curb. The impact was enough to bend the rim of steel wheel on the right rear. I took it to a garage and they replaced the rim and patched the tire and everything was fine... until I took it on the highway a few days later. Loud roaring noise from the right rear that got worse as speed increased.
This summer I decide to try to replace the wheel bearing/hub assembly myself. I took off the drum, unbolted the 4 bolts for the hub and waited for it to drop off the car. Then I tapped it with a rubber mallet. Then I hit it with a sledge hammer. Then I hit it even harder. Then tried pounding a few screwdrivers between the hub and backing plate. Then took off the brakes and slid a chisel in there and whacked the life out of it. I even tried putting the tire back on (with only loosened bolts) and lowered the car onto the tire. Nothing seemed to release thus sucker. I also tried expanding a bolt/nut combo between the hub and backing plate, and only succeeded in bending the backing plate.
Anyone have any ideas for how to get a stuck hub off?

yeah, save yourself the trouble and bring the entire knuckle to a machine shop and get the hub pressed out.
i went through the same thing myself, and i did all that you did. drenched it in pb blaster, torch, sledge hammer, crowbar, pry bar... nothing worked. nearly 3 years of winter driving basically welded the thing together. i gave up after an entire day and breaking my 5-lb slide hammer, and disassembled the whole thing from the car and brought it to a machine shop.
$30 and 5 - 10 min later it was out! well worth it in my opinion! you may be able to negotiate a better price, but considering all the work and sweat i put into it, $30 is cheap
