Injen SRI sp2026 worth it? or KN drop in filter? 04camry 1mz
Seeing as the only aftermarket parts made by companies are the Weapon R and Injen SRI's for the gen 5 v6 1mz is the injen worth it? I like the stock intake on the 04 camry i have you can hear it pulling the air in and it has a decent tone, but if i could pick up a couple horses with an aftermarket part as well as maybe pick up some mpgs or whatever they claim i would. Or should i keep the stock airbox and put a KN filter in it.. I just dont like the fact the injen intake would be so close to the engine and it gets hot as hell down there so im not sure if ill im getting is a deeper sound with possible losses of low end power. just wanna know if any gen5 1mz camry owners have done this. I also plan on getting the trd sport muffler as well.

Hey, I have a Gen 5.5 with a Secret Weapon-R Cold Air Ram Kit. It does loses low end HP which sucks if you drive in the city a lot. However, I notice much better power and mpg on the highway. I don't know if it's because there's a lot more cooler air while driving on the highway, but it definitely helps out a lot because I drive far distances to school and work. The deep growl sounds very nice. Only down side about these intake kits are the lost of low end HP. It feels like there's a little lag whenever you accel from a stop. You'll be spending more gas in the city. All depends on how and where you drive. I made a video on a before and after for the intake I bought. If you decide to get one, I'd go with the Secret Weapon-R because it looks so much better than Injen and I heard the growl is better too. Here's the video:
On my 2005 I4 Camry, I have a K&N filter only in the oem box for almost 3 years now and I think it's a waste of money. I haven't noticed any substantial hp or mpg gains. I keep it pretty clean as well.
Does anyone know if there is a longer cold intake available (not the short ram) that extends around the front fender? I've been researching for one of those along with a complete exhaust system but does not seem like much's available for a gen 5 I4 engine.
You aren't going to gain any power with a drop in, SRI, or CAI. Not matter what the companies say. The power gains they talk about are from the flywheel, when that power finally gets to the wheels it is all lost.
MPG you will only gain 1-3mpg also.
Basically the only thing they are good for is sound.
You'll ask why i have one i am sure, i only got one because my V6 was a guinea pig for an SRI. As there was only one available. And no way was i blowng 300+ dollars. ASG14 (Adam) said he could make one for me custom for 90 bucks. He came up to Canada with the parts, in an hour we had it all pieced together and working.
If it wasn't for that i'd of stayed stock with my TRD filter.
ehh wish there was just more mods availiable other then led bulbs for every light in the car. TRD really shit on the 1mz the i4 has a catback, and a CAI i believe no support to be had. even though i would get the TRD muffler, but id wanna get my whole exhaust done or at least a catback.

Punks:
Do you think there's a noticeable hp gain on upgrading the exhaust (cat-back)? I want to eventually do headers, manifold (header-back). Still researching this with some hopeful results.
do the heat shields for SRI's even work cause i cant see how colder air is going into the engine with it being like a foot away from the engine bay not even. Id think the stock airbox is more hidden and keeps cooler air then a SRI

I bought my Secret Weapon R which comes with the cold air converter kit. It scoops in some air from the fender which is cooler air. I think with that it helps gain some mpg and hp on highways because of the cool air rushing through the grill and bottom of the car. I don't think heat shields will work because the intake sucks really hard so whatever heat under the hood will get sucked in with it. There can't be enough cool air under a running car that makes a heat shield worth buying.
I have both a 2000 camry without the 1mzfe 3.0 with a kn drop in and an 2004 camry with the 3.3 3 mzfe with the weapon r I bought last week off car I'd.com and worksngreat no cel and sounds great also bought the heat shield for extra protection and runs awesome I would highly recommend these instead of injen cause it's the same thing but at half the cost!!! I tried auto zone custom but had issues with all the hoses and maf sensor inputs.. My vote is weapon r is decent, and you can always replace the filter with a kn if you don't like the weapon r filter. Also my 2000 runs a kn and no sound or power difference i like my 2004 better and it's all trd!
