5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well after 4 years of faithful driving, I'm thinking of selling my 2007 Camry SE-V6. It's been a great car and even still I get many comments from strangers in parking lots saying how great it looks.
That said, I'd like to upgrade to a V8 and am thinking of getting a 2009 very low mileage Pontiac G8 GT. It's essentially a 4 door Camaro with 361 horsepower and 385 lbs of torque.
Here are pics of my current Camry and pics of the G8 I'm considering. Wife thinks I'm crazy - curious to know everyone's thoughts...
Me too - I test drove it yesterday and it was a monster.
I haven't been on the TN Forum for a long time as I stopped playing around with the Camry and it just became my daily driver. That said, back in 2007 I remember your car was one of the ones that inspired me .
I think you were the one who moved down to Florida around the time I was just getting into TN actually. Anyway, thanks - I always appreciated your feedback and opinion.
It puts my mind somewhat at ease knowing that you don`t think I`m completely crazy for considering trading in the Camry for a G8 GT.
So much power and RWD..... it is a bad combination in the snow and ice. Not crazy, just it'll be a huge challenge to drive if U could move at all.
That is a concern considering I live in Toronto so we do get our fair share of snow. A lot of G8 owners store their cars for the winter, but it would be my daily driver. I`ve heard with winter tires on, it isn`t too bad - but you certainly can`t be laying patches everywhere that`s for sure.

Thats funny.......I was actually considering the G8, before buying the Camry! The fuel thing scared me off in the end though.
The RWD and you being in Canada, would be a major concern for me as well.
I'm originally from Alaska so I've seen a few winters or two!
I'd go for it, but I'd also consider a "winter beater" if you can afford it. That kind of power in the snow really sucks, I try to avoid it if at all possible. I've had plenty of experience with driving RWD in winter, I will never do it again, it's frustrating. That's why they make cheap FWD cars

i'd go for the G8, but like others have said, be extremely cautious in the winter. i totalled my first two mustang cobras when i lived in boston because of the winter and RWD. the one time i just got caught out at the wrong time and it started snowing like crazy as i was driving home. you know the winters there, always avoid the roads that aren't plowed or salted right away. it's always the side streets or back roads that'll get you.
that's why i bought my subaru. not exactly the V8 i wanted, but it drove great in the snow even with the performance tires because it's AWD. unfortunately, the car i really wanted was the STI, but it looks way too ricer for me.
