Trans Service for 2011 SE 2.5L

I performed the 30K service on my wife’s 2011 Camry SE 2.5L (Automatic) this last weekend. My first time with the new canister motor oil system. Not too bad.

As I was flipping through her maintenance guide, I noticed the plugs don’t get replaced till 120K. I know some of the 4 cylinders are now coming with iridium plugs that do not need to be replaced until 100K, I didn’t know they went all the way up to 120K.

What I didn’t see was a specified interval for when to change the transmission fluid. Anyone know? I was thinking of just doing it at 60K.

Checking the fluid level for the trans, I didn’t see a dip stick. Does this car have one?

Technically, you don't ever have to replace the transmission fluid, as Toyota uses World Spec fluid now. If you ever wanted to change it....be warned...the fluid is ridiculously expensive. And no dipstick, either.

Changing the fluid is done by the dealer and not under your local shade tree. Specific temperatures in the transmission, etc. I would think about doing the job around 100k miles but be warned the job will take some time and cost as much as a set of cheap new tires.

The iridium plugs have a platinum ground pad. They last longer than ones without, like the NGK Iridium-IX.

The WS ATF is a thinner fluid than the previous T-IV for better fuel economy. And like on many newer transmissions it needs to be filled at a specific temperature range through the fill hole like a manual transmission. I'd drop the pan and change out the filter around 30-40K miles.

You can use fully synthetic Valvoline Dex/Merc that's WS suitable. Some say it's about $4-5 on sale. I don't know if the Walmart SuperTech Dexron VI (6) is suitable for WS or not. Always make sure the recommended application is on the label before using.

We recently had a prius in for its 120k maintenance... the guy wanted his trans fluid change and it had WS fluid. It came out clean, like it would brand new out of the bottle. I wouldnt worry about changing it until 90-100k..

Yeah, but unlike the HSD power split device, the 'ICE-only' transmission uses 'old school' clutches and the like. Consequently, the conventional transmission will be a lot harder on the fluid than a device that merely uses it as a lubricant and a heat exchange fluid, especially when driven aggressively with frequent high-rpm shifts.
