Gen5 GEN 5 V6/Trans Question

In mid-production year 2003, the Camry V6/Trans combo went from the non-VVTi/4-speed auto to the VVTi/5-speed auto.

Between these two packages in 2003, which is the better engine/transaxle combination?

I might be in the market again, and I just want to know if one of these engine/transaxle combinations is superior to the other.

They are both the Aisin U-series transmission or clunkers as I like to call them.

however, I'd go with the U151 5-speed, as it's an improved version of U140. The 140 series has a fluid circuit design flaw that can cause two gears to be engaged at the same time and clunk. But I'm not sure if the 5-speed is really any better. IMO the u-series all suck.

Wow, hadn't heard that the transmissions had operational problems before. Thanks for the feedback. So when do they clunk? When shifting from one gear to another? When shifting from reverse to drive? I've never had an upshift or downshift noise that I've ever heard on my 4-speed U140. But is sometimes seems to shift from reverse to drive with a clunk rather than a smooth engagement.
