Gen6 Sound volume on Camry 2007 LE goes down along with the speed

Hi,

I am new to this forum and already got really good advise today on another thread.

So, got another question for experts:
I noticed that when I am braking on my 2007 Camry LE, when the speed goes down, my factory stereo system also decreasing sound volume (I would say that the decrease is around 2-4 points). The decrease is not shown on the stereo, but I can clearly hear it. After resume in driving the volume goes back to normal at some point.
This behavior is observed both in AUX and FM modes.
I had feature in my ex-BMW that was increasing volume on the highway but it was not noticable.

So, I wonder if it is a feature or it is a defect?

Thanks,
supri

This is most likely the "ASL" feature on the radio. Thumb through the bass, treble, fader, balance, ASL.

Thats is probably the main cause, its a new feature that is enabled when you buy the car. It adjusts the volume of the stereo depending on your speed. You can easily disable it by going into the stereo settings like explained above

Agreed on the ASL feature.

I drive rental cars weekly and some hyundai's have a crazy change in volume when I am driving compared to when i stop because of the ASL.

Thanks guys! Indeed it was ASL set to High. I did not realize that my car has this feature as I never went to the volume adjustment menu.
I turned ASL off and the problem disappeared. But then it was getting too quiet when I was driving comparing to the volume when idling. So, I set ASL to Low and it works very nicely. Probably as the car ages, I would need to adjust ASL again .

Thanks for the hint as I would never guessed that ASL is what I need to change and I never bother to read the manual.

FYI, if you have anything but the stock sound system, I would disable ASL. ASL "raises the volume" by boosting the trebel and bass which completely distorts the sound.
