Why does my shifter keep popping out of gear?

2002 Toyota Camry 4cyl 2.4L. After shifting into 5th gear the shifter pops out when I accelerate. The shifter has been vibrating for about a year then the last few months the shifter started jumping backwards on acceleration and then foreward again when I let up on the peddle. It only does this in 5th gear. Anyone have an idea? I don't want to have to spend a ton of money if it's a simple DIY fix.

I had a vehicle that did that at one time..it was the gear synchronizer in transmission.

There's an outside chance that the shift linkage is worn and needs some new parts, but I vote for internal issues that need attention. Try to find a lower mileage tranny you can swap out.
