arming/not arming the car

Hi everyone,

so my camry se's key has those 4 buttons on the key fob. The car comes with keyless entry..but the weird thing is, when i lock my car by pressing the button on the key, and i unlock it manually (or even unlocking it from the inside) the horn does not blare? i thought these cars were suppose to make a ruckus if you open the door while it's "armed".

so does this mean, i have no anti-theft whatsoever? or has this function been de-activated and i need to activate it via dealer? thanks!

Likely what you have is Immobilizer but no Alarm. So it won't scream or anything like that, but without the correct fob, it won't start the car. And if they pop the hood without disarm, I think that's when the horn go off.

These cars don't have alarm unless you have it ordered/installed at the factory/dealer for extra $$ of course. But these cars do have immobilizer system like TTM77... errmm... workerant stated above. Your car won't start unless u have the programmed key.

My 2004 Camry alarm[horn] went off in Walmart's parking lot yesterday. The new transmitter I bought a year or so ago is just as sensitive as the ones that came with the car. Opening the door with the fob or key will not set the alarm off. If it did,we would have one continuous cacophony around the world. I don't think the alarm would go of if a side glass was broken out either.I believe the alarm only sounds if someone is trying to start the car by hotwiring it.Perhaps someone will tell us how the alarm is set off if someone tries to jimmy the hood open. Regards

I purchased the alarm the dealer installed, and one day it stopped sounding the horn when unlocking/locking. It turns out that I disabled the alarm by hitting a button under the dash by the hood release. I'm not sure if all Camry alarms are this way though. Also, my alarm sounds if I kick my front tire hard enough.
