5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am looking at an intake for my camry. The v6 model only really has one option which is the K&N CAI (should actually be a SRI but they call it a CAI). Anyone have this on here? CEL or anything I need to worry about? Seems to be a heck of a lot of hoses coming off the stock air box. I searched the DIY but could not find one. Part number is 69-8611TS
Does anyone have this? I am hoping we can get a good discussion going... The K&N is going to be my approach as I do not want to have to worry about hydro lock ever again. Anyone make a DIY?
Ive had mine on my car since brand new. 48k+ miles on it and I've only had the cel come on once due to a dirty MAF sensor. Cleaned it with MAF cleaner and the light went away. The unit comes with detailed directions so there is no need for a DIY per say. It looks intimidateing but it's actually quite simple. Takes me 20 mins. Let me know if u have any questions.

Seatbelt! you're piloting a vehicle were dual vvt-i hitts harder then VTEC and the torquesteer can possibly snap your wrists
And I took a roadtrip out to Ohio with it with 3 people pluss luggage and got 35mpg. But I have nothing to compare that to since I haven't had the factory intake in it for any length of time.

there is really no point in a bigger filter. i remembered people saying that the stock air intake allows in more air than what the engine needs so its not necessary to get an aftermarket intake, unless your just doing it for looks and the sound.

I have the Fujita Cold air intake on my 07 V6 and trust me it adds a punch. I can try to send you a video of what it sounds like once I replace my motor mounts. I blew them my car has a jet chip and TRD exhaust and massive engine work in pre for a twin turbo so the mounts can't take it any more, to much power to the wheels. mustly just wanted the air intake for now until i put the twin turbo in.

Sorry to hate, but did Toyota tell you this? That statement is totally BS. When K&N says dyno proven 11+ HP... They say it for a reason. Maybe I left an open ended question earlier for things like this, but come on... You really do not think that do you? On top of more air flowing, it is going to be cooler. I wonder if they make a TB Spacer or if you can do a coolant bypass as well.

do you have the short ram or the drop in filter? and what is maf?
11whp from an intake IS bogus, regardless of what K&N says. That just doesn't happen. The dyno was probably ran on a different day with cooler air, and higher octane, after a tuneup...etc, to maximize results. It could have even been run on a different car. One car was used for intake production then given back.... then another car used for dyno testing.
The factory intake uses a fresh air duct. It IS a cold air intake.
I messed around with coolant bypassing and the idea of throttle body spacers years ago, and it's just not worth the effort. You probably won't notice a thing.
If increased intake roar is what you want an intake for, then by all means purchase one! There's nothing wrong with that, just don't get your hopes up that it's actually going to give you eleven horsepower.
I only assume a sri or cai would show you reasonable gains if you turbo'd or supercharged. If you're stock, the hp increase is definitely a gimmick. Especially with the sri, because it sucks in a lot more hot air than the stock intake, and suffers from heatsoak.
That said, I bought mine purely for the sound and didn't try to fool myself. Too bad it was bad figment.

I have the SRI. The MAF is the sensor that tells the computer how much air is entering the engine, so it knows how much fuel to add to the mixture. Sometimes the oil off of the k&n filter builds up onto it and messes up the readings. So my maf code was accompanied by a bank 1 bank 2 system lean. Cleaned it up and everything worked great.
