5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am thinking about buying a 2005 Camry at my work. It's a "repo special", so price will probably be about $3,700. Maroon color, auto trans, 4 cylinder, LE trim. It's in really good shape (inside and out) for having 170K miles. VIN# starts with "4".
I just don't know how many more miles it will have left on it. Don't know much about vehicle history. My thoughts are if someone cares enough about their car and has properly maintained it, most likely they care enough NOT to lose it. So it may not have been maintained all that well. Not sure.
Probably only looking to keep it for a couple of years. My wife likes to get a cash car every couple years it seems.
Thoughts?

Unfortunately I'm the least mechanically-inclined man ever. We do have a mechanic on site though. I'll have him look it over. Just didn't know if it is a good idea to put $3,500+ on a car nearing 200K. Thanks for your reply!
Definitely won't happen. My uncle is the owner of our little finance company, and he doesn't even give me good discounts! The fair trade in value of it is like $3500. He prices vehicles a few more hundred than that most of the time. I could probably get it for like $3600 or $3700.

We do loans on car titles, and if the customer does not pay (gets too far behind on payments) we go get the car, thus repossessed. They then have 3 weeks to get it back, and if they do not pay to get it back, it is ours and goes up for sale.
Right! We do our pricing based on the fair trade in value. So I could probably get this for like I said, $3700 or so. If anything I may buy it and sell it!
Purchased an 03' with 151xxx, and so far so good. Might be worth looking at. Have mechanic check it, if engine N trans are good, it will serve its purpose as a beater as long as you maintain it.
I would pass if I were you. The 2azfe engine has issues with head gaskets leaking due to head bolt threads pulling out of the block. Here are some links on the issue.
