2011 SE Tire Wear

I just put my 2011 SE 4cyl in the shop for its 15k service and it turns out my front two tires, the toyo proxes that come stock are totally gone. It seems the other dealer never rotated the tires when I had it in and now they are worn and its out of alignment. This dealer was able to get Toyota to replace two tires and align the car at no cost to me which was great. They put Mirada gtx sport tires on it and they are not to bad at all but I still have the proxes on the other two for now, soon they will all be mirandas for at least a year cause i drive a lot and cannot afford expensive sport tires that only last 15k miles. Only thing is the car seems to roll more turning now. Are those toyos that good for handling and why do they wear so fast? I know tires make a big difference but the car was on rails before and now its more like an le. either way im happy and was just curious. thanks

The Camry SE comes with "summer performance tires" as opposed to "all season tires" from the factory. I'm not surprised one bit that after 15k miles the tires are shot. That is a common occurence here at the dealership, we see it on a weekly basis.

Depends on the tire. My Bridgestones have a 200 treadwear rating I believe.

GOOD JOB getting the dealer to cover it under warranty. That's a good dealer.

ratings

2011 V6 SE came with Michelin Energy MXV4 S8.

440 tread rating...Tire rack has them classified as "Grand Touring All Season".

No complaints whatsoever.

Based on the surveys, Primacy is a better tire...for slightly less money.

Our 2010 Accord came with 17 inch Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires. 15K and very little wear other than some light outer tread scuffing which is to be expected on a FWD car. I'm quite pleased with the performance too. Miles are about 50/50 city/highway.

Did you check to make sure that these off brand tires they put on your car are at least the specified V-rated tire your SE calls for? We have never put an off brand tire on one of our warranty tire cars. BTW, all tires that a dealership replaces under warranty are under a goodwill type adjustment and are up to the service managers discretion.

Yes they are V Rated and yes this is one of the best dealers in the region thats why I work there. I was pricing tires in the parts dep. and he suggested looking at them under warranty to have them replaced. They were spot on with the entire process and not a dime came out of my pocket. I was very impressed.

I think the handling loss you are talking about is from having two different types/brands of tires on the car. It's great that they were able to fix you up with new tires, but it's a shame they didn't offer you the chance to pay the difference to get something that matched rather than a brand that nobody has really ever heard of. Perhaps 4 of the new brand will be better?
