5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm using Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus 225/45/18 tires. They are excellent tires and have warranty of 45,000 miles. Although they are expensive, they worth every penny. Over 12,000 miles, they never make me disapointed.
PS: Don't be cheap on tires. They are critical not only for your safety but also others'.

I am currently looking at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. They are all-season with a 50,000 mile warranty.
They seem to have very good reviews and they are $150 a piece.
My issue is that I am going to be shelling out $700+ for tires and installation when my current set only gave me 20,000 miles. I don't want to go down that road again.

Go to Tirerack and read reviews for tires around you area. Tires are made with conditions like weather and pavement surface and vehicle, so the best is look for ppl around your area for recommendation.
I got with DWS for Dry Wet Snow, cause MD gets all that weather. So far it drives great. But a few reviews said once the tread is low, it will become noisy. Oh, and the DWS that's writen on the tire also disappears as it wear down. The S go first, than W, and last is D.

Those are excellent tires and that's the ones I was gonna reccomend when I first saw the thread. Had them on a spec v sentra with a lot of mods and suspension work and never had any problems with them. Had about 35k on them when I got rid of the car and they still had plenty of tread left.

I have those on my camry now and its great especially in the snow. Great dry traction too and not much road noise.

I also put a vote in for the DWS. Best all season tire I've ever had. They are not as responsive as some, but the rain grip more than makes up for that. Best of all they ride as smooth and as quiet as a Michelin but for a lot less money.

I also have the Pilot Sport A/S Plus but in 235/45/18. They grip like a summer tire but have a 45K warranty. I didn't want to have to spend $600 every year for summer tires so I bit the bullet and got these and so far they have been fantastic. We'll see if they last the 45K or not but the performance is right up there with a max performance summer tire.

What year and model of Camry do you all have that are using the Continental DWS tires?
I just tried to place my order for the 225/45/18 Continental DWS on tirerack.com
I got a call from their people telling me that the tire did not have the XL load rating that my 2010 Cary SE needed.
Should I ignore this warning? Do I really need the XL load rating?
My car is a 4 cylinder so it should be lighter than the V6.
I'm running the stock 215/55R17 size. I looked up the load range in this size and its 94. The DWS in your size only has a load range of 91. That is a substantial difference. Sorry, but it looks like you would need an XL rating in this size to be on the safe side. If you move up to 235/45R18 then you would have no problem. Actually the 235/45R18 has the same diameter as the 215/55R17 as long as it doesn't rub because of the increased width. I'm not sure about that, you would have to check the tire sticky at the top of Gen 6 forum. If I upgrade to 18's thats the size I'll go with.
