5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm thinking of buying a 2011 Camry XLE, and I need some advice as to whether I should buy the dealer extended warranty or should I pass on it? The car I'm looking at is completely loaded.

Reason: spelling
Honestly, I have never thought to buy an extended warranty on Toyota vehicles, or Japanese brands for that matter, simply because of the reliability. By the time you hit 36k/3yrs, the kinks should be worked out.
Nonetheless, if you must have one, you could always wait until your OEM warranty is about to run up to buy one. You could make a better decision in that time.

Extended warranties are mostly snake oil. Very few buyers ever end up using theirs... and the warranty company makes a ton. Bank the amount they want for the warranty, and when you decide to trade the car, you'll probably still have most of it!
If this is the Toyota factory extended warranty, then I have to agree with 11LE. You have until your 3 year 36,000 mile warranty is near expiration to decide. By then you will have a better long term feel for the reliability of your car. Put the decision off until then.
+1
Also, just remember that you can negotiate on price on an extended warranty, and many members here recommend a couple guys that sell the warranty for very cheap. Do a bit of research, take your time, and make an informed decision.

LOL, tell that to the front stabilizer links they replaced at 60K and they charged Toyota about $400 for. That was about how much I paid for the 70k/7 year extended warranty.
I fully expect more stuff to break or replace before I hit 70K. These are Toyotas, what did you think these were Toyotas from the 90s?

Warranty is a good idea on the higher trim levels. Toyotas of course have proven reliable engines and transmissions, but the little things like heated seats, nav system, sunroof, smart key system....any of those fail and your warranty has paid for itself in an instant.
^ I purchased the 7 year 125,000 mile extended warranty on my 07 XLE just before the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty was about to expire. Within the 3 year warranty I had Toyoata replace the JBL radio, as the display went out. The part alone was something like $1750. If that happens again or if the automatic climate control goes out, then the price of the warranty will be a good investment. That's one of the reasons I went for the extended warranty. I already used the extended warranty to have the steering shaft replaced. That was around $400. YMMV.
I just came home with our 2011 XLE V6, didn't want the extened warranty, told the finance man that 3 times , then he would explain it to me another way & I"d say "no thank you" then he left the room, came back & told me they would lower the price & the interest rate & I would be out $1.50 more per month, so I finally took it. "just say no" And see what they offer
