5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've got a 2010 Camry SE w/50K mi. and have been told the front rotors are warped. Brakes shudder hard briefly then stop from high speed (70ish). I want to replace, but with what kind of rotor? Stock? Slotted? FYI, I'm just a daily driver, school, work, etc... Thx...
just get the 'el cheapos at your local auto parts store if you are going to do them yourself. there is no reason to buy more expensive rotors. you may want to do the pads at the same time.

i just picked up some rotors from autozone and some stoptech posiquiet pads and it was a nice combo...you could always pick up hawk pads instead but they cost about $50 more (i did front and rear at same time thats where i got my prices for).
Centric rotors and Akebono pads. Google Tire Rack to see all the brands of rotors and pads they sell. When you have the calipers off,be sure to lubricate the sliding pins with a lubricant made for that purpose. 3M and Permatex make such a grease. Be sure to use jack stands. Don't rely on a jack. Also,I burnish a small amout of anti-seize to the surface of the dics where it contact the hub. This will prevent rust and let the disc come off without having to resort to heat, hammer, puller etc..
They are comparing to race track compounds. For daily driving Akebono ProAct ceramics are excellent. They are not European brake pads for sure, but very decent, quiet, low dusting, and last a long time. The typical Raybestos for example don't give you much more than 25K miles.
I'd just get the $20 Centric C-Tek rotors. However, if you want a premium rotor ATE grooved on TireRack for $54. Or if there is a rust problem in the region Centric Premium at $50/$37 (front/rear). These have powder coated hubs that stood 400 hours of salt spray test. I don't think they make Brembos for these yet. Brembo is my fave, but Centric C-Tek works fine in most cases.
I tried Hawk. They didn't have good initial bite. Hated them.

i had the same problem on my 2010, i just replaced my rotors and pads with napa products, didnt wana go slotted or drilled due to finding more complaints about them then the oem products, i got the lifetime pads and the upgraded rotors, USA made ... big difference on the weight and look compare to the cheapo japan made rotors ... and napa had everything in stock, no special order BS
I had the same vibration/pulsation problem when braking. It was actually getting really bad. I was due for new pads on all 4s too, so I had all 4 rotors resurfaced at o-Reilly's @ $10 a pop and got toyota pads for all 4 for around $100 (preferred customer discount).
