2006 Brake Light Switch Problem

Yesterday I installed a new brake light switch because my brake lights worked intermittenly. The new switch seemed to fix the problem. The question I have is are you supposed to screw the new switch in all the way? After driving for about 15 minutes, the brakes started sticking and eventually I couldn't get the car to move when pressing on the accelerator. This morning I had to unscrew the new brake light switch a good bit and it seemed to fix the problem.

To install the new switch, all I did was detach the wiring, unscrew the old one, screw in the new one, and then reattached the wiring. I don't understand why that caused my brakes to stick. Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t know the factory specs, but try this;
Loosen the switch so nothing touches the brake pedal.
tighten the switch down to about 1/8 inch from the pedal to the threaded portion of the switch (only the moving center button should touch the brake pedal).

i am looking at the switch right now, what you would do is, screw the switch till the little button in the middle is even with the threads (brake pedal lever up against it). tighten the nut (carefully)..when you step on the brakes, the little button will "pop out", turning on the brake lights. you had screwed in the switch too far, in effect pushing the brakes ON....

(The following is partially taken from the service manual.
Hope it helps)

Insert the stop light switch until the body hits the cushion.
NOTICE: When inserting the stop light switch assembly, support the pedal from behind so that the pedal is not pushed in.

Make a quarter turn clockwise to install the stop light switch assembly.
Connect the stop light switch connector to the stop light switch assm.

Check the protusion of the switch rod: 0.5 to 2.5mm (0.020-0.098 in.

Thank you everyone for responding. That's exactly what the problem was. I had screwed in the switch too far. I have not had a problem with it since making the change.
