Slow AC

Hey guys,

I've noticed something weird on the camry. Compare to my previous car, honda fit, the AC unit in the camry takes forever to get cool. I turn on fan, press AC button and it takes a good one minute before it gets cool.

I don't mean the cabin of the car getting cool, but the cold AC air comes out after a min or so. Is this normal? I do notice the AC isn't as cold as my fit. It's been mid 80s here in Cali.

I know it has freon and the unit works...but it takes awhile...

Thanks for the input

I have noticed the exact same thing on my '11 base auto. Sometimes it starts cooling as soon as I start it, other times it can take 20 or 30 seconds to start cooling. A minor annoyance for sure and the cooling performance is very good once it gets going.

Mines like that too...must be a toyota thing. It's been in the upper 90's here with an average heat index of 115 and it takes a good min or more before the air starts coming out cool.

My 04 will start putting out 40/42 degree air less than one minute after turning the AC on. However.this Monday we had a very humid day with temperature in the nineties and the best it could do with outside air was about 50F. The recirc mode would maintain 42 degree air because the AC was not having to contend with the high humidity. If the outlet temp is 30 /40 degrees below the ambient, the AC is working as designed. Maybe a member can tell us what the evaporator discharge temp is set at. That is controlled by cycling the compressor.

Mine's slow as well....and it doesn't get freezing cold either. I think it's the nature of the beast....my 95 Mustang blows out snowflakes after about a minute (no joke), which kind of makes the Camry look lame, but oh well.
