5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Alright, been driving this thing for a while. I freaking love it.
The V6? Awesome.
The 6spd? Smooth.
The interior? Lexus-par, seriously.
The audio? Great.
The mileage? AMAZING.
But there's one thing. I drive around and use the "average tank mpg" and this barely helps as sometimes my mom will fill it up, and whenever I drive it, it logs 22mpg with her driving. I got 29mpg city before
So what bugs me the most is that, there is no Instant MPG mode I can read off of. I have miles left in tank, but no instant MPG. Is there a way I can configure it? It'd be damn nice.
Thanks guys. Next thing I need is a flux capacitor reinstalled with my turbo encabulator.
^ I do have that instant mpg and I can tell you it's useless.
Stop at breaklight, it goes down to zero.
Step on gas it go to 5mpg.
At speed it goes to 22mpg.
Down hill at speed it goes to 50mpg.
Now back to up hill at speed, it goes down to 10mpg.
Floor it, it goes down to 5mpg.
My point is it jump all over the place depend on your speed and how hard you step on the gas paddle. It's really useless.
The only thing useful is the average tank mpg, this change slower and it get more accurate as the tank go low.

no way to change modes? my mom's car can switch from instant mpg, average mpg, average speed, time elapsed, etc. it's a lexus, but i find it hard to believe that toyota wouldn't at least include instant mpg. it's funny, whenever I drive my mom's car, i get about 4 -5 mpg more than she does too.

how is that useless? you're just proving that it shows you the real time mpg. you can use this to adjust your driving to maximize your avg mpg.

It pretty much tied directly into your gas paddle. If you want, do a zero to speed limit in 4hrs and you will get great mpg.
I did try to use it to improve my mpg. I give it a good try for several months. But finally realize when going up hill you have to step on the gas, and light turn green, have to step on the gas.

And yes, I would think mom would get more mpg's than me!
What other things does your car have?
Odo, temps, miles/tank, mpg/avgtank, I think miles startup and then something else
I think you did ask me this question before... it's a Lexus.
Yeah, I wanted to see how light footed I can be as I cruise along, not as I accelerate. but then, I want to see my different acceleration patterns too.
^ average speed 55mph, so either highway or I was speeding at average speed.
Just don't step on the gas and your mpg will improve. LOL Which is kinda stupid cause you are driving, speed is what driving is about. Getting you there sooner. If you don't want speed than walking would be better. You will still get there, much much later.
I give up on my '07 SE V6. It left me stranded at my work
^Nice. My mom did that 180mile trip from missouri doing 60mph and got above 30mpg. Whenever I get a chance to use cruise control, I'll hit the switch and let her go. Oh yeah, it's pretty straight where i live...
That is true. I use the Camry more than my truck now. It's more efficient... even with AC on.
Did you have your oil hose recall done? This recall has been active for at least a year and a half now. If not then I guess it would have been a good idea. If you did then you have every right to be pissed.

^ I'm not piss anymore. I sold that '07 SE V6 for several years now. My oil burst happen before the recall. I sold it cause I got a good deal on my current GS and that Camry was having way way more problems than I expect.
I use that Camry a lot too. Hit 60k miles within hmm... I think 3 years. Had all the problems that existed for that '07. Oil burst, engine flare, #2 ignition coil fail (I think it was #2 or was it #6 anyway it's a common issue for '07).
Right now my GS, I only visited the dealer once to put on a new set of tires. Oh, and every 5k miles for oil change which doesn't count here.
fancy cars lol my SE doesnt do that but i only calculate how many miles divided how many gallons i filled up in my car to figure out my MPG and its usually 35 and i mostly drive in city
