2010 Camry SE 4CYL Cold Start Noise

My 2010 Camry SE 4cyl started a cold/dry starting at 33K miles. Took to the dealer in Feb 2011 and they preformed the TSB below:

2010 Toyota Camry Engine And Engine Cooling Service Bulletin 59978

NHTSA: Action Number: 10034924 Service Bulletin Number: 59978
  • Report Date:
    Jun 09, 2010
  • Component:
    Engine And Engine Cooling
Summary: Toyota: brief engine knock/rattle noise cold startup. Immediately following a cold soak startup, some model vehicles equipped with the 1ar-fe and 2ar-fe engines may exhibit a brief knock/rattle noise from the engine compartment for approx 10 seconds.

Then 3 months later ( July 2011 ) same problem....Dealer preformed same TSB and one day later..........Same problem............

My car has been out of service for 28 days this year, due to this....Is anyone else have/ Or has had this problem.... Is there any class action lawsuits on this? Does Toyota know that they have a problem??? I notified Toyota of the problem, Via the steps for the Florida Lemon Law....Any Info of this will help.....I love my car but hate my motor rattling like it has no oil for the first 10 seconds of start up.

So, what fix does the TSB require/suggest?

Toyota told the tech to replace the cam gear and a cam.....Done this fix twice and it still sounds like no oil in the car at startup for 10 seconds.....any info?

No answers, just checking 'cause I couldn't find the answer on any TSB site and I have a '10 I-4 but don't have the problem. Just wanted to know for future ref in case the problem shows up here. I have 29K on mine at the moment.

According to the OP the service performed per the TSB did not help. This could be an indication that it doesn't work; OR; this could be an anomaly and one that didn't work out of several thousand that did work. Without knowing the complete number of times this TSB was acted upon and how many times it worked or didn't work it's hard to say if it works or not overall. I would give Toyota the benefit of the doubt.

As a mechanican, I can't understand why this should give an rattle. I would search this at the hydraulic valve plunger. I don't know how they look like in this 2.5 camry, but in other cars this is mostly the cause of an rattle the first 5 seconds of the cold start.
Should toyota have done an researche of this ?
