2004 Camry engine noise

My 2004 Camry (86000 miles) has started to making a valve noise. I have checked and changed the oil, changed the spark plugs, and had the belt changed. The valve noise usually occurs during acceleration. I don't know what else to check to fix the issue.

Any suggestions?

If the valves are audible on acceleration, it might be the gasoline octane you are buying is too low, or has been contaminated in some way. Consider buying gas at a different station if the fueling has been at the same location. Second, this type of noise comes when the cylinders are carboned and demand higher octane to avoid the knock. Get one bottle of RXP from the parts store, add to the gas and try it for the balance of that tank. It comes in a small bottle but helps blow carbon out to allow older cars pass emission tests. It might help here. Thirdly, if better gas and RXP don't cure the problem, the next thing to look at would be engine timing, and this is likely a chore for your mechanic. The engine should be capable of adjusting the timing to accomodate octane shifts. The knock sensor may need attention.

Thanks so much for the reply. The gas should'nt be the issue. I alternate between 93 and 89 octane each fill-up. I will give the RXP a try and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks
