I need to replace my leaky water pump: AISIN or another brand?
My 09 2.4L camry has 62K miles and it's out of warranty so I can't claim it. I was thinking of going through toyota and try to get the regional Toyota to pay for it since there's maybe a flaw in the design of the water pump. Any one have luck with that?
I know water pump is fairly cheap and easy to replace on these motor but I would like to know if anyone have luck with aftermarket brands.
I would like to stick with the toyota red coolant, just to keep the same chemistry.

i've had to replace my water pump three times already, twice under warranty. I assume the ones under warranty were oem pumps and therefore aisin, and I just replaced it last month with an aisin again. i'm crossing my fingers that this one will last longer, but if i were you... i'd probably go for a different brand. i didn't seem to have much luck with aisin

I'm not sure why Aisin pumps have this kind of failure rates. Water pumps aren't difficult to make. Maybe they have a special cheapened design for the I4. One member said the V6s don't seem to have a similar failure rate. Dunno.
Maybe go with a Gates pump and flush the system with distilled water and go with the proven Valvoline G-05 or VW G12+. Both are silicated coolants however but both are non-2EHA. BTW, yours should have the "Pink" coolant in there. It comes prediluted. It's not the older Red cooalant that come in full concentrate.
You will have hints if the water pump fails. If it leaks, there will be dried collant stains around the pump and the overflow tank will be going empty. If the bearing fails, the noise will alert you to the problem. Replace the hoses if you can afford it. If you are on a budget, replace just the top hose. It gets the hottest of the coolant and is normally the first to fail.

Sorry to hear that... 2000 miles out of warranty. I bet if you hastle Toyota enough and let them know you know it is a problem with the 2.4 motors they will grant your wish.
It couldn't hurt to try and ask your service adviser/manager. It definitely helps if you have a good relationship with the dealer.
I tend to frequent my dealers, not out of necessity, but to build a solid and friendly relationship with the whole staff. As a result, I've been able to get significant discounts on parts, service (and on occasion sales) and I've gotten some out-of-warranty repairs paid for by the company.

Zerex Asian Car coolant is also a good choce when changing coolants. It is about half of what a Toyota dealer wants for the pink stuff and its formula is very close to the OEM coolant. Get it at NAPA.

Hello Donald E. George,
Is the Zerex Asian Car coolant that NAPA sells similar to the full strength Toyota red coolant or the Toyota pink coolant that is pre dilluted? I will be looking to replace the Toyota red coolant in my 2003 Camry and didn't want to buy it at the Toyota dealer and pay top dollar for it . Thank You.
From what I read it's closer to Toyota Red. The Zerex Asian uses sodium benzoate as the primary inhibitor (also used in some processed foods) just like the Red.
The Pink has sebacic acid but uses potassium hydroxide as a pH buffer (?). It's basically 1/2 a Dexcool, and maybe the lack of 2EHA acid is the reason for the high corrosion rate with brass/copper head exchangers.
If Aisin hasn't improved the pump then maybe an aftermarket Gates water pump with VW G12+ or Zerex G-05 (both come in full strength concentrates but are low silicated however) may be better alternatives after flushing with distilled water.

I went with another OEM pump on my '05 @ 45K miles. Hopefully I don't regret it later.
I've tried the "goodwill repair" deal but because I don't service my car at the dealer (I'm way more comfortable maintaining my car myself, AND it's cheaper) they don't really want to work with me. I did have problems with my intermediate steering shaft. I paid to replace it, then 1.5 years later I had the same problem (before the greasing TSB came out) - so they decided to do a goodwill repair and replace it again.
I don't really care. The benefit I get from servicing my car elsewhere far outweighs the minute benefit I get from the dealer.

I purchased Zerex radiator fluid and will buy a Duralast water pump with lifetime warranty. However, After I check out the existing water pump and I find it is leaking from the mating surface due to improper sealing, I will just reseal it and reuse it.
Since i'm switching over to Zerex, I will run the vehicle with distill water for couple days and flush it.
Hope to document the work this weekend.
