Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror DIY !!! with pictures

ok peeps so this is my first post hopefully would help you ....
i searched couldnt find a DIY with pics ....

1. Remove battery cables

2. take your OE mirror

you'll have to unscrew your mirror (using a t20 torx)

and then pull downward with both hands n your slide it rite out.....

this is wat you'll c

3.Pull weather-stripping down past top of A-pillar

pull rite out dont be afraid you wont rip it ....

4. Remove your driver side A pillar Trim

you would see a trim retainer you can try to rotate it 90* with your finger (if you have small finger) or you can use something else...
you can kinda stick your finger between the A pillar trim and headliner

5. Remove coin tray
pull it towards you ..

6. Remove center dash panel
pull it towards you... gently because it has 10-pin a connector attach

make sure you remove the 10-pin connector

7. Now install your new Auto-Dimming mirror
just slide in where you took your old mirror off... really easy make sure you also tighten the screw

8. Route the wiring...
ok first connect your harness to the mirror and route wire between the headliner and roof, to top of the A pillar ....

(for those who dont wanna run wires on the A pillar because the air bag.. guess wat? camry already has wire on da A pillar... so no a problem at all )
also make sure you use some tie wraps.... 2 or 3 should be enough....

9. Cut about 1 inch of the plastic tubing on 10-pin connector wire bundle....

also identify your harness...

then attach a T-Tap the blue (ACC pin#8), white/black-stripped wire (GROUND pin#7)

.....make sure all wires are completely connect

Reconect your battery check if everything works and put everything back in place...

PD. you would get a "C" means calibrate once your drive around a 360deg around at 5mph or more the mirror would calibrate itselft

any questions let me know ill help ... this is a good upgrade for ppl trying to get homelink, dont be blind by ppl driving with HID, etc..

Nice write up you could have used the overhead wire harness as well to make things easier.

Nice writeup! I plan on doing this to my gf's Camry. Which mirror did you use and how much did it cost you?

My question is however, how did you hide the wires from the back of the mirror? The stock one is a stick-on to the windshield, but the new mirror comes w/ the black cover thing?

I used an oem camry xle i believe its a 07-12 ... Cost about $140-160
The wires from the back of the mirror r not too thick (2 wires only) so you can kinda slice it at the same time your mounting the mirror on that like thing thats holds it on da windshield ... The mirror i have came with the cover but i bought 1 from yunk yard (standard piece) the other day cuz i installed a auto dimming on a buddys car as well...
It was about $4 but imo dont look bad if u run the wires without because its not a long distance from da mirror to the headliner

Now my aunt has a prewired xle that came with auto dimming mirror but without homelink and she upgraded to the homelink one ... Ill send u a pm maybe u interesting ...

Pd. Im posting from my iphone so thats why i quote everyone ... Im not trying to quote each single reply lol .!!

Very nice write-up. I would like to add that if your car is equipped with a sunroof then it is pre-wired for the auto dim mirror. Take down the sunroof switch console and the two wire harness is taped to the headliner on the drivers side. 2 scotchlocks and the install was done in less than 10 minutes. I bought the accessory mirror for a new Corolla and it fits the Camry perfectly. It's a simple auto dim with no compass or homelink.

Both my Camry's have moonroofs. But it wasn't long enough for my application since I installed a used Scion and a Maxima dimming/homelink mirror lol. I just used a test light to test the wires. Very straightforward. Most Gentex mirrors have 3 wires for the homelink ones which I wanted. Some have compass and temp which has more wires.

I also did not have the plastic wire guide that goes on the glass. Just used some small black wire loom and did the job. Best of all picked up both mirrors for about $100. My Scion mirror has the mood lights which is cool if you want a disco in your car lol

You don't take the headliner off. I used a old CD and wedged it to the front of the plastic console and it pops off the entire housing.

Nonetheless good work!

The compass display kinda match the interior.. A ligth blue/teal color but the green light its indicating that the auto dimming is on ...
Its a OEM toyota piece mirror but the teal color display its kinda standar on auto-dimming i guess
