07 camry: rotate tires, drove and tire light came on

I have a 07 camry. I rotated my tires from the front to back and back to front. I drove it home and the car sat for 2 hours. I then drove it again and the tire light came on the dash (the exclamation point light) All 4 tires had only 20 psi each! What happened? Was it because the tires were off the ground, I removed the tires from the thing, or was it because i removed it and placed it on the floor?

It may need more air check your door to see how much tire pressure you actually need I had the same problem

Sounds like it's working correctly. I don't know what the limit value is before the light comes on or what the sampling is like, but it sounds like the system is working. It indicated that you had low tire pressure. Or are you asking something else?

I've only ever had my light come on once after I got a piece of metal in one of my tires.

ok, i will start off by saying i am not aware of the full story here....

you had the tires rotated, that i understand, but who DID the actual tire rotation..YOU...???

or a garage, because you do say "you drove it home"..

so here is what "could have happened". (first scenario)

you took the car to a garage. the mechanic, or tire changer rotated your tires.

he checked the air pressures in all tires. but the tires would have been WARM, which means the air inside would be "expanded"...so he LET OUT enough air to meet the inflation requirements on the door label...

when you got home, the tires COOLED down, and when this happens, THE ACTUAL air in the tires is LOWER than the door label....setting off the warning light...

or this is what happened....(second scenario)

you drove your car to a garage, YOU rotated the tires, YOU checked the air pressure and saw that is was MORE air than what should be in them, and YOU let out some air....

you drove it home, later when the tires cooled down, the light was on, you had low air...

so which scenario was it..??? 1 or 2...???

by merely setting the tires down on the floor, is in no way conducive to making the sensors react like this. now, if you were to let the tires bounce high into the air like a basketball this might happen, as you could possibly jar the sensors out of whack...you didn't play basket ball with your tires, did you..???

simple tire rotation, is just that...simple....i am going with the thought that "someone" let out air, thinking the tires were OVERLY inflated, which they NEVER were....

and as always.....the labels on the door jamb DO SAY...COLD INFLATION PRESSURE....meaning you check the tire inflation BEFORE the car is ever moved from it's parking spot. once you drive a mere 5 miles, the tires warm up, the air expands, you DO NOT GET a proper inflation reading....

ok to be more specific,
I did the tire rotation. I took it into my school auto shop to do tire rotation. The tires had like 34 psi each tire. I did not touch the valve stem nor let air out or add any air in. Maybe 1 tire I may have bounced but definitely not all 4. I rolled the tires though. I left the school shop and everything was fine. Left it sitting for 2 hours and drive it again and the light was on. Each tire has 20 psi now lighting up the tire light. I was just wondering did it lose air because the tire was off the ground, the tire was removed from the car, or because I placed the tire on the floor

You typically only lose 3-4 psi going from "hot" tire to "cold" tire. If something happened during the tire rotation, the light would have likely have shown up as you drove home.

Is it possible that someone is playing a trick on you? It's odd that they all lost the same exact amount of air....

You might have a bad valve stem or you have a nail or screw in a tire most likely ,and its loosing minimul air at a time and its not noticeable to your eye good possibility one these two .hope it helps

it don't matter if the car is on the ground, or in the air. you do not lose that much pressure. since you did this at your SCHOOL. someone messed with you and let the air out. each tire was at a loss of the same amount of air.....so someone behind your back, did this....

each tire you say had 34 psi, and at home they all had 20 psi...??? no way could you have lost that air equally in each tire.....either someone at the school did this, or at your house..got a little brother..??? ask him..or just say, "hey you little puke, i know what you did to my car"...watch him run away.....

You did this at school. Someone pulled a fast one on you when you weren't watching. One tire loses pressure and it is a leak. All 4 lose the same amount of air in the same time period and it was done by a human. Air the tires back to 35 pounds and all is good, but don't mention this to your friends as school because it will happen again the next time you park it and they have access to it.

+1
Tires don't "randomly" lose air like that. And not all at once.

Next time, jack up your car at home, don't mess with it at school, lol.

Bad gauge? Either the gauge you used when you last checked/filled your tires or the in-line gauge on the machine you used.

Thanks everyone for responding. I was concerned/tripping when I lost air in the tires because this never happened before. Alrighty, time for some pay back when i go back to school lol. Weird thing is I park my car in the shop everyday and no one ever messes with it/there is still air in the car, and all of a sudden i bring it in the garage on a lift and this happens.
