i had worked as a mechanic many years ago, and i was also a state certified vehicle emissions inspector. if ever a vehicle came into my shop with a "muffler delete" and i could hear any "noise" i would check to see if there was an exhaust issue. if i see anything missing, i would reject the vehicle, and the customer now has 14 days to correct the problem.
a vehicle is supposed to be presented for inspection equipped with the factory original or OEM replacement parts, or aftermarket parts that CLOSELY perform like OEM... parts, meaning NO hot rod parts..
now, many after market parts do this, but that particular set up does not. as for emissions, the car should still pass... (but read on) it's the replacement or deleting of parts that will get you nailed.
also understand, that the back pressure was worked into the parameters of the ECM..removing those parameters, may cause the vehicle to run differently, which could cause higher readings at the tail pipe.
some shops will 100% follow state rules (i know i did, and didn't care anyone's sad story about how much a system costs) i should add to this, that my state sent out "under cover cars" to make sure inspection stations were doing things on the up and up, i dared NOT get caught just selling an inspection/emissions sticker....other shops will just slap on an inspection sticker. then....some states....have roadside inspections, which you if caught, will get written up...or also, you go drive by a cop, and just because people in the area complain about noise..??
he will ticket you....
do as you wish, it is YOUR car, but at least you have more information now.
