(Brighter/More reverse lights) Does anyone know if or think this will work?
Im thinking if I try to put switchback LED signals in the rear and tap into the reverse lights wires to the signal light wire they would they stay on (white) when in reverse but blink amber when using the blinker. Im not sure how the switchbacks work but I think if they have a constant current the white leds light up white and when its not constant the amber leds light up. Like I said Im not to sure if it would work just because I think the reverse lights would also come on when I hit the blinkers. Any ideas? I just want more light to see a little better at night reversing and Ive seen people put HID's in the reverse lights and have even seen a kit that can be bought like that but I think thats overkill. Feel free to chime in with any ideas or and mods that might help me out with that!
Hey bill sounds like a good idea but i rather get reverse hids they make them now my freind got them on his maxima their not as bright as the headlights but their ment for reverse or DRLS their 15w they wont mess up your tailight housing i saw them on my freinds ride their very clean heres the link.
Very bright (much much brighter than the stock bulbs), instant full brightness... I personally have these in my car. Best of all, no messing with ballasts and all the other wires... just plug these right in.

Ive seen those but 50 bucks is kind of a lot to spend and ifs still not enough light ill be pissed lol
Thats why i want to "add" more lights but still keep the "OEM" look
they are a bit pricy but they are a perfect amount of bright IMO but these are smaller bulbs and less watts needed to power you dont have the lag you think you get, its smaller bulb less gas than regular headlight hids and they power on imedtly. but the price is the tough part lol it woulndt b e a bad idea to try those switchbacks bill let us know if you try it see how it goes.
Some LEDs now can output a couple hundred lumens which is way brighter than the stock bulb. Get a 3 to 5 of them and you can easily get 1000 lumens which is about the same as a 9006 headlight bulb.
Check out some of the flashlights that use Cree LEDs to see what they are capable of. You'll need some kind of driver or regulator circuit to drive the LED and some kind of heatsink to cool them.
On this video if you look around the 47 min mark this camry has the blinkers as reverse lights as well. I know if I had just plain white blinkers its wouldnt be that big of a deal but I want to figure this out with the switchbacks. Only thing ive thought of so far is putting a rocker switch so the power doesnt pass to the reverse lights when the blinkers are one and turn the rocker switch on when I put it in reverse but who wants to hit a little switch every time they go into reverse? lol Ill try to think of some other stuff and keep you all posted. Feel free to shoot some ideas!

If you want more brightness and be able to see, you're going to have to spend money. There is no such thing as more light and pay less. If you're looking to make the back brighter when you're backing up, expect others to be blinded as well.
They sell license plate mounts that has LEDs that light up the back. Check VLEDs
I feel that the reverse lights arent even suppose to let you see behind. Its more of letting people behind you know that you're backing up...not to be used like headlights.

As for this, the reason why is because they installed modules. From what I remember, their brake lights also act as turn signals. The turn signals are now the reverse lights and the reverse lights are no longer used. This was from the last time I talked to them. I think he was trying to get both the reverse light working as well. Never heard or saw it.
What's up Bill? I just got some LEDs installed at my boys shop and they look great and definitely give me more light than I had before. i got the reverse bulbs and the LED License plate bulbs all installed for $50 at my friends shop. Knight just went there with me yesterday and was quoted the same thing. Let me know if you are interested I will hook you two up.

I wouldn't even both with the switchback idea. You're spending money on something that may not work and you yourself said you don't want to spend a lot. So if it doesn't work, you're wasting money because you have to return it and it involves restocking fee and shipping it back.
If I was you, I would go with the CREE from JLC. Its $30 and seems pretty darn bright from the videos. I would get the CREE if I didn't already have LEDs...unless someone wants to buy mine. LOL.
