Also - an idea what the dealer is going to say when I show up for my next free 5K service?

i personally would not like to see anything disconnected under the hood. there are times when the computer will not show a fault code. having the EGR not working can be harmful to the engine. if it were me, and i was working at the dealership, i would make a note in your file that things were disconnected. then when you have an engine warranty issue, i would deny coverage, as you messed around with the anti-pollution devices. this is also known as "tampering"...and it is usually mentioned in ALL warranty paperwork. i'd try and contact K&N about this and see if they have a solution. there may be a "how to connect" in the instructions that you may have missed.
when it comes to warranty work, the dealerships will follow guidelines if something has been "tampered 'with.
you also run the risk of the EGR valve carboning up from non use while the K&N kit is installed, rendering it useless, when you go to put everything back like factory condition when you go to the dealer.
