I think JBL and BOSE are about the same. BOSE just bossier so with a bit bigger price tag.

And for 6 speakers... well if it's like the SE V6 than here is my window sticker

I believe Toyota counts the 2 way rear speakers as 2 separate speakers thus giving it 8. I personally think Bose sucks. I'm not much of a car audio guy but in my Living room, I take my AV serious. I will never use a Bose product. JBL/Harmon/Infinity>Bose

For reference, in my house I have Cambridge Soundworks Newton series in-wall speakers, SVS subwoofer, Denon AVR, Oppo Blu-Ray Player and a Harmony remote to go along with a Samsung 55" LED TV. No "acoustimass" system will touch it.

the 2 front might have a small tweeter in it.

The front should have tweeters in the dash and "woofers" in the door.

^ my point is it said 8 speakers in 6 locations. So somewhere there are 2 speakers in the same location. Do tweeter count as a speaker?

I'd say the rears. They're 2-ways and Toyota probably considers them separate speakers.

There are eight speakers in six locations. Dash has two 65 mm mid range speakers. Front doors have a subwoofer each and rear deck has two 6x9 coaxial speakers with integral 25 mm metal dome tweeters with subwoofer. The rear deck speakers count as four speakers.

It's the rears. If you pull the back deck off, you'll see the 6x9 woofers with tweeters mounted to them, however they are a separate speaker, with a separate audio cable/channel running to them. I may be able to take a pic of mine (currently removed) and post it later.

As was mentioned earlier, the front setup is woofers in the door, tweeters in the front dash near the windshield.

I have a 2007 LE with the JBL setup.

Forget about the speakers. Is there any way to increase the gain on the JBL amp? I replaced the OEM radio with the Pac Tato and even with the dipswitches flipped, its still much lower than I'd like.

No idea, but from what I've read and seen (haven't removed my seat yet to check) the controls are VERY limited. That's why I'm considering swapping the entire system out for aftermarket components - more control.

Not to threadjack - but are you running the Erisin HU? If so, do you like it? I'm deciding between that one and a Pioneer DVD unit (no Nav though...).

I do have the Erisin. I like it alot. For $300ish, its a great Nav. When I had my Basslink installed (at a legit shop) they were impressed with it. My only complaint is the lack of volume but the same thing happened with the Eonon I had originally. I think it has more to do with the Pac Tato/JBL amp than the radio.

I'm considering just getting a 4 channel amp, running components in the front and some 6x9's in the rear. I don't need an earth shattering system but I do like to blast some tunes every now and then.

I'm considering the same, but mostly because one of my 6x9's is blown, and I can't find OEM speakers anywhere (other than Toyota for $350).

With your HU, can you do nav while you play mp3's from the USB slot? I really don't want to hook up my iPod anymore. Would just rather plug in a USB flash drive.

I also worry about warranty issues. something about buying a HU from Amazon (having someone I can call and curse at if I need to) makes me feel a little better. It's probably somewhat irrational.

I also wonder what issues we'd run into wiring those in. I know, worst case, you could use a high-level input into the amp, but that's not always ideal, and I don't know if the sub out (RCA's) are passing the full spectrum of sounds.
