5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
2011 le 1192 miles as of now and at about 1170 the check engine light and traction control lights are on. Check engine come on and stays on when I turn on and off the car. I was able to turn off the traction light by stopping turning off the car and turning it back on. But as soon as I start driving it comes back on. Headin to the dealer as soon as I get off. Any ideas so they don't bs me? What could this be at only 1200 miles?
1200 miles? Probably just a malfunction of some kind. Either way it's under warranty so it's not like it's a major deal. Annoying, yes, but not the end of the world.

Maybe the ECU is having problems communicating with the engine and TCM control module. Maybe before you go to the dealer, stop somewhere like AutoZone and see if it throws a code(or two, but let's hope not). Hopefully someone else can give their input seeing as I am not too sure myself. Hope this helps though!
And are we still down for a meet? Because there would only be 3 people (including me) going as of now .

Don't go to Autozone-just take it to the dealer. The Autozone people are not repair technicians, they are minimum wage retail sales people. If the check engine light is on it has a code. It is a new car the dealer should fix it for free
Update.. Toyota said the code for the check engine was coolant temp.. and that the traction control light is a default that comes up when a serious code is thrown.. Can anyone confirm? They are replacing my thermostat. Sad that only 1200 miles and the cars already being worked on. Thank god for warranty.
Got the same lights on again today!!!! This car is a lease w/ otb. I had 2 ppl already tell me that since it was a lease and so early in the lease I can request another car. Is this true?
I had the same thing on my 2011 se with ~300 miles on it, took to the dealership and it turned out to be a problem with the fuel tank vent hose or something and now they have to replace the whole damn gas tank.
Same problem again. Same lights came on same code came up.
Replaced the sensor again... 2nd so far
So for a 2011 Camry le I4 with 6400 miles it's seen 2 thermostats 2 coolant temp sensors and a replaced ecu... Spoke to Toyota headquarters and also spoke to lawyer about the lemon law. You would think they would replace the car and let me finish my lease in a 12 but no they just keep replacing the same parts. Got the car back today after almost a week of them having it. Alls fine for now. I love my Camry love Toyota but they really need to step up and accept the cars just not right.
Man, that is not good. The factory trained techs at the dealership cant't fix it. Just goes to show how all this computer controlled whiz bang stuff isn't so great after all. They are missing something. The chanses that two sensors and or computers are defective are slim. It could be a design defect of the computer, programming, or sensors. It could be a wiring harness issue. If the programming has a glitch it will continue to throw the code even with new sensors and computers. As cars ger more and more computers in them and more complicated, this will happen more and more. Maybe some day the tech. happy public will wake up and demand less complicated, more reliable cars. Doubtfull though, since people will camp out overnight to buy the latest ipad that will be obselete in a week.
