2011 Camry SE Defective Welds From Factory HELP PLEASE!!!
So I took my car in last week for service because of a loud cracking noise in the back area of my car. They called me yesterday to come in to check out my car. When i got there the entire inside of the car had been stripped down to the bare sheet metals holding everything together. They told me that they were able to verify where the noise was coming from but they werent able to tell what was causing the noise. They said they are thinking it is probably a cracked spot weld but they cant see unless if they separate the two weldings from the rear quarter panel and the metal inside the trunk area. But they said they are not willing to separate those two because if they do they will have to repair it with brand new parts and paint job. They said they are not willing to fix this problem under warranty because when they checked on the exterior side under my fender supposebly there was slight damage to the car. They are thinking some kind of road debris probably caught under the wheel and threw it up against the fender Which caused it to impact under the wheel well and crack the spot weld. which doesnt make sense because if something gets between the wheel and the rear quarter panel it will probably pull off my hole bumper. Not crack my spotwelds
So they're conclusion of this was yes there is something wrong with the car but they dont know whats causing the problem. And they will not touch it because they dont know if its a warrantble issue. They did give me a bill to fix it tho for $5,900 which is not going to fly with me. What do you guys think I should do because what they are telling me does not make sense. And its weird that they dont know what it is after bringing the car down to the bone. I think it is a Factory defect.
What do you guys think?

So far you have said the dealer totaled your first car, had the sunroof popping issue, have talked about the lemon law over wheel vibrations, started a thread on how tired you are about the problems of your new 2011 car after the dealer totaled the other one, told a member not to buy a shift knob because he should steal one from a Lexus on a dealer lot like you do, said the caliper was hitting the rotor, and now you say the dealer has to fix welds somewhere for $6k.
If it were my car I'd just take it to another dealer, this sounds fishy and/or ignorant at best. While anything is possible an external hit from a rock or other object in the inner fender liner isn't likely to damage spot welds that can only be accessed by cutting the whole rear of the car apart. Frankly even if they were damaged it seems like they'd be able to cut an access hole in the fender liner, make the repairs and patch it, I can't imagine that would cost more than a grand or so. To me it sounds like they really have no clue what they're talking about. When does the noise occur? Did anything happen immediately prior? Usually bad crunching noises in the rear are suspension/suspension mount damage.

First off I never stole a shift knob I'm sorry you have no sense of humor and second of all why would I trade it in when the car definitely has a problem that can cause it to be a lemon. I recall asking for a opinion on this thread but please lets keep the stupid comments aside. THANK YOU

You must have the worst luck.

Ohhh lol my bad bro I didn't know it was you ya that was pretty funny but probably shouldn't try it. But I'm really frustrated with this car and I can't afford taking another loss trading in the car I probably have a better chance of lemoning it now so I will probably try that

Yea, that absolutely sucks.. everything bad that could happen, did happen. Id say apply for lemon or what ever you have to do. Camry is a great car, just every maker has its lemons, some more than others..
i think the dealership body shop isn't up to speed on repairs or diagnostics. is there an EXCELLENT body shop in your area you can go to and inquire as to how much money it'll cost you for this very same inspection..?? from there, maybe the car can be driven back to the dealer, with a detailed report of the damages. then get toyota corporate involved.
many body shops have machines that can take a 'type of" x-ray of metals. that dealership may not have such a machine, this is why you must seek out someone else.

Well i really cant take it to another dealership because this was inspected by the toyota corp rep's themselves. The noise occurs when the body is flexing or going over speedbump so its weird there is really no explanation for it. the tech said it definetley cant be suspension because on the test drive when he put his hand in between that area where the two welds met the noise stopped and disappeared.
Another thing that was really weird was that the fender had a ripple effect running across the fender as if something had hit the car from behind and caused the ripple effect. The body shop manager said this is totally separate from that problem and could have been cause by someone leaning on the car. Ive seen dents off someone leaning on a car but not ripple effects across the hole fender thats really strange. So bascially they were trying to blame it all on external damage and that nothing was a warrantble issue.

is the car in your signature the very same car you are having a problem with..??
if so and if push comes to shove, they can blame you for lowering the car or using the wrong sized tires/wheels. because they will say that you "altered" the car, in effect voiding out your warranty.

no way lmao they wouldnt even touch it if it actually looked like that. That car is my homies car. I didnt get the platinum extended warranty on my car for no reason

I would recommend a 2nd opinion. $5900 for them to tear apart your car is ridiculous, you can't break a spot weld from som simple debris without first destroying other parts of the car.
