last time I check used cars are like everywhere. People are selling them everywhere, dealers, carmax, craiglist, on the roads, on the side of the roads, ads.

And for the low cost, well..... their is a trade for that. high mileage and car could be in accident.... all boil down to the buyer. I even see car giving away for free but need a little fixing.

well not knowing how close the the American border you are, there will be used car lots all over the place. sometimes these are very small places, maybe about 10 cars or less at anytime for sale. but, like anything else, if you see something you like, you still need to have it checked out by a mechanic you can trust, which probably means, you have to take a mechanic with you, as you may not be allowed to take it back to Mexico to your mechanic.

also, a car make look like a cream puff on the outside, smell real good inside, and be SUPER clean, but as stated, it could have been in a wreck and is NOT a good car to buy.

Many people lose lots of money buying used cars as they do not know how to look for a good car, or know how to buy one. so someone could take advantage of you. i would rather you ask people in your area for advice. then if you can, go into the state you are bordering on, and go looking. you can also try www.kbb.com for used car values, but this is ONLY a guide, as used cars very often go up in prices, as well as go down, depending on current inventory and demands for them.

also, you need to be careful when buying a good used car. it could be stolen, then shipped to your country for sale. if it ever needs service, it possibly can be traced to you, and taken away from you. this might happen more here in the states then down in Mexico however.

Just keep in mind that you don't specifically have to get a 2003 Camry, any year from 2002 until 2006 was all the same body style of Camry, the 5th generation.

Used cars are everywhere, you don't even have to look hard to find them. Half the time when I drive to work I'm passing used cars for sale.

Importation of cars into Mexico is quite complicated and the taxes are determined by the model year. Beyond that, the cars and trucks must go through 'nationalization'.

I'm not necessarily talking about importing a car, certainly there must be some for sale in Mexico, somewhere.

Toyota did not have a presence in Mexico until a couple of years ago so it was not possible to buy a new Toyota in that country. It was not legal to import one unless it was several years old (if I recall, 10 years of age). Once in country, it must be nationalized to conform with Mexican federal law. If the car is to be used and licensed to a resident within a specific distance of the frontier, and that distance varies, the full import tax can be avoided and Fronterizo plates are issues by each border state and BCS. If the car is to be licensed farther south, then full VAT must be paid and regular passenger plates are issued by the specific state. Old used Toyotas can be found on car lots in border cities just as any other make can be, but 2003 is pretty new in the big scheme of things, not legal to import, so a 2003 might be a challenge to find.
