5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I own a 2002 Camry with no Navigation or JBL System. I recently purchased this Double-DIN Head-Unit for my vehicle because I planned to add a subwoofer and amplifier.

I just wanted to know if they're are any DIYs on removing the panels and installing the HU?
Also, where can I find the wiring color codes for Toyota so that I can soder the wires for the aftermarket stereo harness?
I appreciate the help!
You should get an adapter harness, if you get an unterminated harness the wire colors of it will match (and be labeled) your aftermarket harness, or if you want it real easy they make plug and play harnesses for most popular aftermarket radios. I highly recommend against taping into factory wires directly. As for the install, the dash kit should include instructions, these from Metra look pretty good: http://www.metraonline.com/files/pro...NST99-8203.pdf
I used the metra instructions on my Gen 6 and they were very accurate.

Im sure theres pictures on how to remove the factory stereo, but ill try to help you out. The HVAC controls is one unit and if you take a flat head and carefully pry up one of the sides of the unit it will pop out, and same with the other side. after you popped off the HVAC unit you can unplug it and put it somewhere, now the stereo bezel is all once piece and slowly pull the bottom of the bezel and work your way around, it should all pop off pretty easily and once you get the whole piece out, unplug the clock and then you'll have access to the bolts to the stereo. As Big Weezy said, you should look into getting a harness for your new radio, it will take the factory colored wires and turn them into aftermarket colors that match up with your aftermarket radio harness which makes installing the new radio a breeze.

Thanks a bunch guys, i got everything off and looks good to go. I'll keep you updated with pictures of my progress!
I looked at that PDF from Metra, and so the EIA is the wiring colors for the Toyota and the other side is the wiring colors from the harness they provided, am I right?
WHERE CAN I FIND A HARNESS?! It would be great not to splice into the original wires!

I'd imagine the colors are if you're using a Metra harness, those color codes are the standard colors for aftermarket harnesses, but it's rare to see OEM harnesses use the same color, but I don't have a Gen 5 to know for sure. You'd want this harness according to crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207017...ss.html?tp=736
Toyotas of that era used pretty standard harnesses, if you're in a hurry best buy, hh gregg or a local stereo shop should have a harness in stock from metra or scosche or similar
