Gen5: Fuel Filter

Why did they put it in the tank so it can't be replaced? If I drop the gas tank can I replace it?

Does it need replacement and at what mileage? How many miles is it good for?

Just asking sounds like bad design to me.

Liftetime with no replacement interval. You will need a pump before it became a problem.

underground gasoline storage tanks are much better now then they ever were. the racks at the fuel facilities have filters built into them, so as they fill up the tanker trucks, the gasoline is already filtered. every gasoline station has a fuel filter at the pumps as well that get replaced on a regular basis.

but frankly, i too would have appreciated an inline filter either in the engine compartment, or under the rocker panel. the only reasons for there no longer being any inline filters are from what i have said about the gasoline being cleaner, and the fuel pressures from the pump to the fuel rails. an inline filter may actually become destroyed with the pressures.

I think you can take the rear seat cusion out and get to the fuel pump assembly. You will need a special tool to unhook the fuel lines. If you are going this far,you might as well replace the entire fuel pump assembly. Regards
