Suspension Rejuvenation
Hi,
I've decided that after 150,000 miles and almost 10 years, to rejuvenate the suspension on my 2002 XLE 2.4L car. All suspension parts are original to car with exception of Eibach springs and GR2 struts. I plan to buy most parts on RockAuto which I have had good experience with. However, I have a few questions I would like to ask.
It looks like the bushings on the control arms are shot so I'm going to try to replace the whole control arm. From research on this site, I think I can do both sides by just jacking up the engine to get to bolt under the motor mount.
1. What is experience of anyone who has done both control arms without taking out engine & tranny? Any tips on anything to disconnect while lifting engine?
2. Should I change both motor mounts since I have them out? How to test them?
3. Are the Mevotech control arms with ball joints any good? They are considerably cheaper than the name brands.
Sway bar links on front both are easily turned with my fingers. I plan on replacing them.
I also plan on doing outer and inner tie rods.
I plan on replacing upper strut mounts and bearings since I never did that when I did struts about 40K miles ago. I was just learning at the time and didn't realize they should have been replaced.
4. After 40,000 miles, are the GR2's still good to go or should I think about replacing them as well.
5. Anything else I should replace while in there or any tips of things to watch out for?
I have not even started thinking about rear yet, but that will happen once the front is done.
Thanks in advance for any comments.
