You are probably seeing surface rust on the calipers which doesn,t affect their operation unless the corrosion is so bad the caliper leaks or the slide pins become inoperalbe. Being eight years old,why not see what new calipers cost. The 2004 with rear disc brakes uses two different calipers. There are numerous sites that tell you how to replace the calipers. Regards.

if it is surface rust, you can clean them up with a wire brush, then spray paint them..however, if the rubber boot is ripped in any way, they are trash, as the rain water and other road debris would have attacked the caliper's piston.....at this point, just get rebuilt calipers.

so check that rubber boot, on both calipers. and frankly, if only one boot is torn...?? i'd replace BOTH calipers, as the other boot will rip soon enough.

age, as well as the weather conditions, does not do well for those thin rubber boots.

there is a member here that did a brake job o the front brakes i believe. he took all kinds of clear, sharp pictures. unfortunately, i cannot remember the title. you will have to go through the pages here. what he did for the front brakes, you may very well apply to the rear.

if i can find that thread for you, i will provide a link, but you can start checking yourself as well.
