Passenger Airbag light question

Hey all,
Quick question about the air bag light function for the passanger seat. When no one is sitting in the seat it does not display "on" or "off" by the clock. When I sit in the seat it displays "on" Shouldn't the light always display "off" if no one or someone too light is sitting in the seat? Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the sensors in the seat?

it is normal, it is annoying, and i was here several months ago asking for advice....i got none...so all i did was get a piece of cardboard, colored it black, and stuck it up where the light does not bother me no more, done deal....

i'd rather have it covered up, don't care if it comes on if there is a problem....i want it gone..it was or IS a stupid way of having that light set up the way it is.

It is that way for a reason. If there is no one in the seat the light does not come on. If there is an adult in the seat the light comes on and say "ON". If there is a child (under a certain weight that I don't know what it is) the light is on and says "OFF". It is a warning that there is a child there and the bag will not go off potentially harming the child.

Just a part of meeting federal safety standards.
